Water has no colour of its own. It only ever reflects what's around it, the sky, the light, the seabed, and the weather of the day. In this series, the sea becomes a mirror rather than a backdrop: sometimes teal, sometimes gold, sometimes pale and colourless, always shifting. Each swimmer is shown alone, submerged in that reflection, and in doing so becomes part of it too. Wave 9 continues this exploration across nine new paintings, each one a different light, a different mood, a different way of disappearing into the water for a while.
