Water has no colour of its own. It only ever reflects what's around it — the sky, the light, the seabed, the weather of the day. In this series, the sea becomes a mirror rather than a backdrop: sometimes teal, sometimes gold, sometimes pale and colourless, always shifting. Each swimmer is shown alone, submerged in that reflection, and in doing so becomes part of it too. Wave 9 continues this exploration across nine new paintings, each one a different light, a different mood, a different way of disappearing into the water for a while.
